Καρίμ Ρασίντ: Παγκόσμιο βραβείο design στον ευφάνταστο δημιουργό του ξενοδοχείου Semiramis στην Κηφισιά (φωτό)

Ο Καρίμ Ρασίντ (Karim Rashid) είναι ένας από τους σημαντικότερους βιομηχανικούς σχεδιαστές του 21ού αιώνα.

Γεννήθηκε στο Κάιρο το 1960, από πατέρα Αιγύπτιο, καθηγητή τέχνης και σχεδιαστή και από μητέρα Αγγλίδα δασκάλα. 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

It’s been 2 months in quarantine and the challenge is to stay healthy, productive, disciplined, creative and patient. At the same time we are faced with realizing how we have really created a hypertrophic machine of consumption, and this capitalist machine that strives for constant growth can’t go on. I remember living in Milan back in the day and across from my apartment was a little grocery store that the family took such pride in. They were so content in the morning washing the windows while birds chirped, cleaning the vegetables and displaying them so aesthetically. They had no desire to have a chain of shops, to grow their business but instead they were fulfilled delivering quality vegetables and fruit and loving and embracing their business. They enjoyed their lives and in turn helped others. The word that comes to mind here is gratitude. They were content. Today in capitalism we don’t start businesses out of passion but instead for money and growth and to please shareholders or investors. If the world could be content by doing something fulfilling, a business that is born of passion, a job that one loves and is devoted to, a contentness with less., a gratefulness only for what one has, and eradicate this inhumane exhaustive greed, we could all have enough to live our lives and reduce the over production of goods and services, And in turn reap less havoc on the earth. There is more than enough now to fill the world if production stopped or was cut in half. The silver lining in this epidemic is that we need to slow down, create a more human world where free time, social concerns, time with family, less toxins, and more passion, love, creativity, and intelligence prevail. To realize that one is fortunate to have health and love and can contribute to making a better world is a state of self-actualization. Love thy Neighbour, love the world. Globalove #karimrashid

Το 1982 πήρε πτυχίο στο βιομηχανικό σχεδιασμό από το πανεπιστήμιο Carleton στην Οττάβα του Καναδά. Ακολούθησε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές σχεδίου στη Νάπολη της Ιταλίας, με τον Εττόρε Σόττσας και άλλους, κατόπιν κινήθηκε προς το Μιλάνο για ένα έτος στο στούντιο Rodolfo Bonetto.

Μετά την επιστροφή του στον Καναδά, εργάστηκε για επτά έτη με τους βιομηχανικούς σχεδιαστές KAN. Ενώ ήταν στην KAN, ταυτόχρονα σχεδίασε τη συλλογή της Babel Fashion και της North μεταξύ 1985-91.
